  • Why are SHEVEGA Supplements effective?
SHEVEGA Supplements are effective because they have all the necessary ingredients in one supplement to add in food, including potent prebiotics. The prebiotic, the wall of Saccharomyces cerevisiae has an ability to bind to toxins and therefore deactivate them, this is specifically important for dogs with gastro-intestinal problems. It balances and increases good bacteria and the death of pathogenic intestinal bacteria, like Salmonella, Clostridium and Campylobacter, which is crucial for your pet’s gastro-intestinal optimal health.
  • What are the key ingredients in the SHEVEGA Supplement?
SHEVEGA Supplements are a mixture of amino acids, such as Methionine, Threonine, Taurine and Carnitine; Antioxidants and Vitamins D3, E and a B complex; Minerals and micro elements Calcium, Phosphorus, Zinc, Iron, Manganese, Copper, Selenium and Iodine and prebiotics. SHEVEGA Supplements contain Prebiotics necessary to prevent the loss of beneficial bateria in your dog’s intestines when they are on antibiotics. • Can dogs be fed a human diet?
Dogs can be fed with fresh Home-made food for humans. When owners prefer to cook for their dogs, it is better to get professionally formulated recipes, or adapt their owners’ meals to their dog’s requirements. It is a high risk for your dog’s health if you prepare their Home-made food according to your or other owners’ well-intentioned recipes, that are in almost every case under or over supplemented. Research- (Donoghue and Kronfeld, 1994) In many instances ingredients that are toxic for your dog are used.
  • Can I give my dog my Take-Away food?
Dogs can be very sensitive to processed food for humans. In vet practice, many dogs fed inappropriate food for humans, end up in emergencies. SHEVEGA’s advice is not to feed any of your takeaway food to your pets.
  • I feed my dog raw, why would I need to supplement their diet?
Some nutrients like Manganese, vitamin E, antioxidants and more, can be low in raw food. The way of the preparation of raw meaty patties can decrease the level of Taurine. Immunocompromised or dogs with low immunity or over-reactive immunity will develop diseases like chronic ear infection and systemic disease caused by the Pseudomonas aeruginosa, a zoonotic disease that can be transferred to immune-compromised, older people and very young children. Please keep in mind that raw is not recommended for pets with cancer and in immuno-compromised household. Research- (Joffe and Schlesinger)
  • If dogs eat meat and bones in nature why would I need to supplement their diet?
Dogs in nature eat the whole prey with its complete head, intestinal contents, and bones and meat have usually fermented in soil by beneficial bacteria which are dependent on humic and fulvic acid, - these are rarely present in soil now days, - this is due to the high levels of pesticides present in soil. Fermented bones and meat are highly digestible and lose their allergenic properties.
  • I heard carbohydrates are not good for dogs. Is this true?
Carbohydrates are necessary for pregnant dogs because developing puppies needs them for their proper and healthy development. For adult dogs, carbohydrates sources are also good source of energy, prebiotics, fibre, vitamins, and antioxidants. They are one of the three sources of energy that body can use and are important to balance food. The other two sources of energy are protein and fat. It is not recommended to give high fat diets, unless your dog is a sledge dog and loses enormous daily amount of energy with such exercises. High fat in a diet can cause pancreatitis and accumulate in liver, and cause obesity and diabetes. The other source of energy are proteins. They are rich in phosphorus and can cause disbalance in the body and health problems if given in very high levels. Urine acidity, high phosphorus and high levels of amino acids are overloading and pushing kidneys to work harder which is not good for kidneys. High phosphorus and low ratio of calcium to phosphorus levels can cause nutritional hyperparathyroidism, means that calcium is being pulled / leached from the bones. High methionine can be cancerogenic. To balance diet, Carbohydrates are necessary in dog food.
  • How good are SHEVEGA Supplements?
Our SHEVEGA supplements are complete and balanced, ALL IN ONE, amino acids-vitamins-minerals complex supplements specifically designed to supplement different adult dog diets, precisely as it is recommended in SHEVEGA website. Many other supplements are not complete. SHEVEGA supplements are formulated for adult dogs and consist of 24 nutrients, vitamins, minerals etc. Check the label on THE SUPPLEMENTS that you would like to compare. Read how many ingredients, not including herbs, flavours are presented in the supplements. Notice how many of different vitamins, minerals and amino acids are in THE SUPPLEMENTS. If the supplements you are checking have similar list of ingredients, read the amounts recommended for the daily dose. Compare to SHEVEGA supplements. You might be surprised that some supplements can have 10 or more times lower quantities of ingredients than SHEVEGA or the other good quality all in one complete supplement. Now check if there is the recommended dose for the specific diet type, for example the dose of the supplements recommended for what kind of home-made food or another food type? If your dog is on raw diet or dry commercial food or for example keto diet, you are getting the same supplements and the same dose for the different diet types. That is not a good sign. Has the supplement manufacturer provided diet plan that the supplement would be compatible. Or in most of the cheaper supplements, the amounts of the ingredients are so small that by giving them to your dog daily diet your dog is on, you cannot make a mistake, neither will your dog benefit because the daily dose of ingredients are minimal and does not have any effect on your dog’s wellbeing. SHEVEGA is helping dog owners, carers to check the current diet and supplements so you have the proof that you are not spending your money for nothing.
  • Is plant based foods harmful for dogs?
Feeding Plant-based diets, without adding the complete and balanced supplements is the form of cruelty and can kill dog. Dogs are omnivores and requires specialised care if on a plant-based diet. SHEVEGA Supplements have been specially formulated to complete and balance the plant-based diets, as well.
  • Why should I add SHEVEGA Supplements to a complete commercial diet?
Many essential nutrients are lost from the high temperature during processing, during transport to another countries, during the long shelf life and if not properly stored during the usage. Even freeze-dried food is at the end of the production heated to high temperature to destroy potential pathogenic bacteria and toxic fungus present in different starting ingredients. Ref: Research: ‘Stability of essential nutrients in pet food manufacturing and storage” Alaina Mooney, B.S. Kansas State University, 2010., Thesis, Master of Science. Did you know- High temperatures during production & a long shelf life can cause loss of nutrients and a decrease of the utilisation (availability to be used in intestines) of over 60% of nutrients in pet’s canned/dry (kibble) food.
